TravelPathway seeks to establish an interactive platform that aims to: i) bridge the information gap around travel requirements, affording particular attention to restricted passport holders; ii) establish a dynamic community that feeds information real-time on travel issues (including preparation and changes in procedures); iii) develops a network of local service providers mandated to offer visa solution and facilitations aiming to reduce the time and cost associated with the visa obtaining process some nationalities have to endure.
The process for requesting and obtaining a visa to travel abroad can be incredibly cumbersome and costly; particularly for restricted passport holders who are often also citizens of developing countries. Such nationalities will often need to travel long distances to the nearest embassy or consulate–that may be located in a different city - in order to inquire about or request a visa.
In addition to the significant costs associated with accessing and applying for a visa service, passport holders also need to navigate complex legal procedures, equipped with fragmented and incomplete information at best. Confusion and lack of clarity regarding rules, requirements and processes in turn results in individuals running into extensive delays and experiencing protracted waiting times to process documentation. Exemplary is the case of countries with limited diplomatic representation for whom the only option is through a regional embassy which is balancing visa requests for several nationalities at the same time, further lengthening visa processing times.
Compounding the difficulty of obtaining legal travel documentation, travelers often encounter security and protection risks at airports and points of arrival. Entry and border regulations can change overnight without notice, aggravating pre-existing vulnerabilities, particularly of those nationalities with weaker passports.
The key strength of TravelPathway is its dynamic nature. User interaction and engagement isn’t limited to an abstract exchange of experiences around travel issues but most importantly it creates a feedback loop whereby services are shaped based on users’ interactivity in regard of the countries they want to travel to. This interaction is at the basis of TravelPathway’s sustainability: whereby changes in travel regulations are captured real time and services are shaped in tandem to ensure an adequate and continuous response to a rapidly evolving reality.
